The Pine Box is a craft beer and cocktail bar with a full-service kitchen on Capitol Hill — housed inside a hauntingly beautiful 1920s funeral home and chapel. The soaring vaulted ceilings, mortuary columns, and church pew booths set the scene. Our bar and table tops are made from wood reclaimed from the building’s original coffin vaults — history you’re literally drinking on top of.

Dark, moody, and unapologetically Capitol Hill. The result is one of Seattle’s most atmospheric bars — the kind of place that feels like it has a few stories it’s not ready to tell.

Yes — before it was a bar, this building was one of Capitol Hill’s prominent funeral parlors. Bruce Lee’s memorial service was held here in 1973. We honor that history throughout the space with photos and memorabilia, particularly upstairs. It’s one of the things that makes The Pine Box genuinely unlike anywhere else in Seattle.

Yes — The Pine Box is a 21 and over establishment. Valid government-issued ID is required for entry. No exceptions.

We’re at 1600 Melrose Ave, Seattle WA 98122 on Capitol Hill. Four minutes from the Paramount Theatre and the Convention Center Summit building. The Capitol Hill Link Light Rail station is about a 10-minute walk. Two pay-to-park lots nearby — one to the north, one to the west. Street parking on Melrose is also worth a look.

Far from it. Craft beer is part of our soul, but we’re a full bar built for everyone — whether you’re a hop-head, a cocktail person, a spirit sipper, or not drinking at all.

We run 30+ rotating taps focused on craft beer — local Seattle and Washington State breweries alongside the best regional names in the country. The live tap list is always displayed on screens behind the bar.

Our kitchen turns out brick oven pizzas, wings, small plates, and salads. Order via QR code at your table or at the bar. Takeout and delivery available. On Friday and Saturday nights, we also offer table service throughout the main interior.

Yes — all of our pizzas can be made vegan. Beyond pizza, we have additional vegan-friendly items on the menu as well.

We call it Holy Hour — daily from 3 PM to 6 PM. Killer discounts on drinks and food every single day of the week. It’s a fitting name for a bar in a former chapel. Check pineboxbar.com for current Holy Hour specials.

Yes — open year-round. In summer it opens up completely for fresh air and street energy. When Seattle turns grey, it encloses and heats. Best of both seasons. Pets are always welcome.

We don’t take reservations — The Pine Box is walk-in only. Get in where you fit in. The space is big, the booths are deep, and there’s almost always room. Come as you are.
